I. Overview & Performance Role
The 9011 is a high-performance halogen bulb standardized under North American (SAE/DOT) regulations. Designed as a dedicated high-beam bulb, it is engineered to produce a powerful, focused beam for maximum long-range visibility. The PX20d base is its secure, keyed electrical and mechanical interface.
II. Key Characteristics & Application
High-Beam Specialization: As a single-filament bulb, the 9011 is optimized solely for the high-beam function. It delivers significantly higher light output than standard low-beam bulbs and many older high-beam designs.
Enhanced Luminous Efficacy: Through advanced filament and gas-halogen cycle design, it produces greater lumens per watt than its predecessors (like the older 9005), resulting in a brighter, whiter, and farther-reaching beam.
System-Specific Design: Its performance is calibrated for the reflectors of headlamp assemblies specified by vehicle manufacturers to use the 9011.
III. Identification & Critical Compatibility
Base: PX20d. This is a plug-in base featuring two opposing wire guides. It is visually and physically distinct from other common bases.
Absolute Non-Interchangeability Warning: The 9011 is part of a specific performance-matched pair with the 9012 (low-beam). They are not interchangeable with the more common 9005/9006 pair or any H-series international bulbs.
DO NOT replace a 9011 with a 9005, H11, or any other bulb.
Installing an incorrect bulb will result in poor beam focus, potential glare, reduced performance, and may damage the headlamp socket or reflector.
Primary Application: Used as the high-beam bulb in many North American vehicles (particularly Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, GM, Ford) from the late 1990s to 2010s that specify the 9011/9012 system.
IV. Important Installation & Handling Notes
Correct Pairing: Always ensure the vehicle's low-beam is the matching 9012. The optical system is designed for this specific pair.
Orientation is Key: Align the base's keyway with the socket correctly. Forcing it can break the connector or bulb.
No-Touch Rule: The quartz glass envelope must remain free of skin oils. Handle using the plastic base or clean gloves to prevent early failure from hot spots.
Performance Verification: After installation, check the high-beam pattern for correct focus and intensity in a safe area.
